MallorcaMallorca/Majorca enjoys a typically Mediterranean climate with warm summers and mild winters. Temperatures range from 13C in January to 28C in August, and the rainy season is September to November.
Mild winter temperatures make this Mediterranean island an ideal destination for city breaks, walking breaks, and specialist cycling holidays in the mountain regions. For specialist outdoor holidays, March and April are highly recommended months to visit.
Mallorca is the largest of the Balearic Islands, with varied landscapes of mountains and valleys, rocky coves and over 550km of coastline. The west coast has one of the most spectacular landscapes in the Mediterranean, with its backdrop of mountains and orange groves, and the south-east coast is littered with small bays and caves. Within the caves at Cueva Drach, is one of the largest underground lakes in the world, where concerts are given by classical musicians boating across the lake.
There are 76 beaches on the island, 35 of which have been awarded the European Blue Flag, with many offering water attractions such as parascending, windsurfing, snorkelling and scuba-diving.
Pollensa is situated about 7km from Puerto Pollensa. The town is popular with holidaymakers and offers some delightful country retreats, beautiful scenery across its mountains and valleys, and some totally unspoilt areas of natural beauty.
Alcudia lies either side of the busy coast road, and the warm shallow waters of Alcudia Bay make this resort very popular with families with young children. The beach is a major attraction with 8km of fine, clean sand with a wide variety of water sports and other facilities available to suit an active family, which include a water park and go-kart track, as well as the usual array of bars, shops and restaurants.
With its vast mountain range, Mallorca is prime walking/trekking country. The best time to visit is in autumn and spring when the weather is cooler, and is ideal for both walking and cycling holidays.
Alcudia is the main centre for cycling, attracting thousands of cyclists to its cycle-friendly roads with offering spectacular scenery. Anyone can rent a bike here and enjoy many hours cycling along the specially designated cycle tracks which lie next to many major roads.
